OF THE INTERNATIONAL ORFF-SCHULWERK FORUM SALZBURG
Based on Orff's idea and memorandum (1965) on model schools, the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture set up 100 model classes with extended music lessons in the 1960s. In the 1970s, Hermann Regner initiated a network of Carl Orff Model Schools in Bavaria, which the IOSFS expanded in the following decades into an international network of Associated Schools and Institutions. The schools include state and private kindergartens, primary and secondary schools and music schools. Their students come from all social classes and have a wide range of musical and dance abilities. The institutions are training and further education institutions for Elemental Music and Dance Pedagogy working according to the principles of Orff-Schulwerk.
The IOSFS has issued guidelines for application as an Associated School or Institution (see PDF below). One of the prerequisites is that the teachers have received professional training in Orff-Schulwerk Pedagogy.
The Associated Schools and Institutions report at the yearly conventions of the IOSFS about their work and present projects. They visit each other to exchange their experiences and plan further cooperation projects. A future publication about their work is planned.
These model schools can become a reference point for the further training of young Orff- Schulwerk teachers. It is therefore suggested that in each country where there is an OSA, at least one such school be established.
