ABOUT US

The International Orff-Schulwerk Forum Salzburg (IOSFS) is a non-profit organization whose primary purpose is the worldwide promotion and further development of the pedagogical-artistic work of Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman (“Orff-Schulwerk”). The IOSFS is a network of national Orff-Schulwerk Associations, Associated Schools and Institutions and individual members around the world. Its mission is to collect, to document and to publish international information about the work with Orff-Schulwerk, to further communication between institutions or individuals, to be an advisor for pedagogical questions and to initiate events or support them.

History

The Seminar and Information Centre for Orff-Schulwerk “Orff-Institut” was founded in 1961 at the then Mozarteum Academy in Salzburg by Carl Orff and Dr. Eberhard Preussner with the support from the Austrian Ministry of Education. In 1983, the Information Centre was re-named  Orff-Schulwerk Centre Salzburg by Dr. Hermann Regner and became an independent institution. In 1984 it was registered as an independent non-profit association in Austria. When the Orff Centre Munich was created in 1988, the name was changed to Orff-Schulwerk Forum Salzburg. Finally, in 2014 the organization’s name changed to International Orff-Schulwerk Forum Salzburg, assuming an increased area of responsibility.

The directors of the organization were Wilhelm Keller (1966 – 1982), Hermann Regner (1983 - 1994), Barbara Haselbach (1994 - 2018) and Shirley Salmon (2018 - present).
